Teeth Whitening

A smile matters most in making a lasting first impression. For it creates an immediate, subconscious, visual impact on people you meet as well. A brighter smile gives the impression of youth, vitality, radiant health, happiness, and warmth. A bright smile is perceived as a healthy smile and may change your entire day.

SMILES ARE VALUABLE

Statistics reveal that we place a high value on our smiles. According to an American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry survey: 1- Virtually all adults (99.7%) believe a smile is an important social asset. 96% of adults believe an attractive smile makes a person more appealing to members of the opposite sex. 2- Three-quarters (74%) of adults feel an unattractive smile can hurt a person’s chance for career success. 3- Respondents were asked, “What would you like to improve most about your smile?” The most common response was: Whiter and brighter teeth. If you are not happy with your smile, teeth whitening may be a good first step.

TYPES OF TEETH WHITENING

There are various ways to whiten your teeth, but the two most common are in-office treatment and the do-it-yourself approach, with over the counter products. 1- IN-OFFICE TEETH WHITENING 2- OVER-THE-COUNTER (OTC) OR HOME TOOTH WHITENING SYSTEMS Now your most comprehensive solution are through laser whitening technology. In less than an hour, we can make your teeth shades whiter! It’s simple, painless and it is FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved!

- In-office bleaching: where translucent bleaching gel is applied to teeth and a laser light is used to activate the crystals to absorb the energy from the light and penetrate the teeth enamel to increase the lightening effect on the teeth. The length of time in the cosmetic dentist’s chair depends on the degree of teeth discoloration you have.
- Take home trays: The home whitening system involves having special plastic trays specifically fabricated for your teeth. The bleach is administered from small syringes into the trays and these are worn for 45 minutes to an hour a day for up to 2 weeks.

Porcelain Crowns & Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin pieces, custom-made shells made from tooth-colored materials of porcelain used to recreate the natural look of teeth, while also providing strength and resilience comparable to natural tooth enamel. It is often the material of choice for those looking to make slight position alterations, or to change tooth shape, size, and/or color, and contours. Moreover, it is also a good choice for fractured teeth, gaps between teeth, and in some situations where the tooth position is compromised and there are minor bite-related problems

To apply a veneer, a very small amount of the original tooth enamel must be removed, usually less than a millimeter. This is essential as it creates room for the porcelain veneer to fit within the mouth and most accurately restore natural tooth function while creating an even better appearance than the original tooth.

VENEER CONSULTATION

1- A smile analysis has to be done in order to determine what steps are necessary to achieve the smile you desire. 2- The dentist at Corbani cosmetic dentistry may create a diagnostic mock-up that will allow you to “try on” veneers and other procedures to see if the final result is actually what you’re looking for. 3- The dentist may also show you a photo of how your new smile will look. This is known by “cosmetic imaging”.

THE BENEFITS OF VENEERS

Custom-made veneers resist coffee, tea stains, and cigarette smoke because they are made of high-tech materials. Your natural teeth remain largely intact with only a minimal amount being altered to fit the veneer.

¬For teeth that resist whitening, veneers can make even the darkest teeth appear bright white. Crowns: Dental porcelain enhances the look of natural tooth enamel, while providing desirable strength and resilience. When recreating the form and function of a damaged tooth, Porcelain crowns are an excellent choice because a crown basically replaces the entire external portion of the tooth down to the gum level. Crowns are not limited to simply replacing the original tooth, but can be designed to create an even better esthetic appearance.

COSMETIC INLAYS AND ONLAYS

Inlays and onlays are indirect restorations that can be used to help an otherwise healthy, strong tooth with a large filling. Inlays are placed within the grooves between the cusps (points) of a tooth, whereas onlays are placed within the grooves and over the cusp tips. In addition, Inlays and Onlays can be used to replace old filings, and are more esthetically pleasing because they can be made to match a tooth’s natural color. They can be made of porcelain, gold, or composite resin. Porcelain inlays mimic enamel’s translucency and color, making them attractive choices for patients.

Crowns

Crowns are a restoration used to improve your tooth’s shape or to strengthen a tooth. Crowns are most often used for teeth that in situations where tooth decay has destroyed most of the original tooth, when a traumatic event has caused damage, or in cases of severe enamel erosion. In effect, the crown becomes your tooth’s new outer surface. Crowns can be made of porcelain, metal, or both. Besides, Porcelain crowns are most often preferred because they are very strong and mimic the translucency of natural teeth.

WHYS OF PORCELAIN CROWNS

1- Porcelain crowns replace the exterior portion of a tooth to re–establish its original function and to create a natural appearance.
2- They are also an option for people who grind and clench their teeth so much that the original structure of their teeth has been compromised.
3- Designed to look like the original–or even better

Porcelain Fixed Bridges

A fixed dental bridge is a non-removable prosthesis attached to remaining natural teeth.

Fixed bridges were the best alternative for people who had lost teeth in which a bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth, looks great, and literally bridges the gap where one or more teeth may have been. Your bridge can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials and is bonded onto surrounding teeth for support. They were quite successful and esthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, bridges can also present some problems because the natural teeth that lie on either side of the bridge are filed to accept the appliance. A bridge may be used to replace missing teeth, help maintain the shape of your face, and alleviate stress on your bite.

THE HOWS AND WHYS OF A PORCELAIN FIXED BRIDGE

1- Replaces missing teeth by using the surrounding teeth as a foundation. This creates a literal “bridge” between the remaining teeth and the missing teeth. 2- It can be shaped to replicate original teeth and fit comfortably within the established bite pattern.

Orthodontics and Aligners

Orthodontists are not only concerned with only braces but also it is concerned with the position of the teeth, what has caused them to arrive at their current position, and what future movement may be needed so that a patient’s bite is fully functional.

Your cosmetic dentist may have some orthodontic options available to straighten your teeth, ranging from conventional braces (with wires and brackets) to invisible braces (clear orthodontic aligners). Each method ranges in price and treatment length, and will vary by patient.

Plastic Aligners

A relatively new type of orthodontic treatment allows teeth to be straightened using removable, see-through, plastic aligners (e.g. Invisalign). This treatment is only suitable for certain people.

Clear Orthodontics Aligners

Clear orthodontic aligners can straighten a dental patient’s teeth without the wires and brackets of traditional braces. The aligners consist of a sequence of clear, removable trays that fit over the teeth to straighten them. Each tray must be worn by the patient for a specified amount of time—usually around 20 hours a day for two weeks–before the patient can progress to the next tray. In most situations, the aligners can straighten teeth in anywhere from six to 18 months.

Clear orthodontic aligners are suitable for patients with mild or moderate crowding, or minor spacing issues. They may not be appropriate for patients with severe crowding or spacing. While the aligners can correct a mild malocclusion, patients with severe underbites, overbites or crossbites may require more advanced orthodontic treatment.

Unlike traditional braces, the trays can be removed for brushing, flossing, and eating. Because the trays are clear, patients can undergo this type of orthodontic treatment without the usual discomfort associated with regular braces.
